John Glen joins EVI as Director, Research & Valuation

EVI is excited to announce the addition of John T. Glen, a prominent expert in real property valuation and property tax consulting.

John is well-known for his expertise in real estate valuation in respect to complex properties including multi-purpose commercial centres, hospitality properties, multi-residential, recreation, industrial and special purpose properties as well as his expansive knowledge of appraisal techniques and methodologies.  His appetite for knowledge and learning together with his inquisitive spirit enhances his expertise with each project or challenge presented. John has been called upon to provide expert witness testimony in an extensive number of valuation cases before various courts and tribunals, assisting in precedent setting matters in many jurisdictions. As well, he has conducted studies for government agencies in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean, utilized in policy matters for those jurisdictions.

“Professor” Glen, continues in his role at York University, where he teaches various real estate related courses under the Department of Administrative Studies.  As well, John is a sought after speaker who routinely presents at government and industry events/educational forums on valuation techniques and methodologies.  His knowledge is apparent and well documented in the various articles and publications he has written on valuation methodology; assessment training manuals and valuation issues such as obsolescence or market affects.  In addition to continued self-study in all areas related to real estate and valuation, John holds a Master’s Degree in Geography; is a member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada; the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; the Institute of Municipal Assessors, the Law Society of Upper Canada; and is an Ontario Land Economist as well as an Associate of the Appraisal Institute (USA).

Ontario Appeal Deadline – March 31 2013 (April 2 this year)

The IPTI Property Tax Summit – Niagara Falls, ON – April 18, 2012

The International Property Tax Institute teamed up with a whole host of partners to have a 1.5 day event looking at the current state of property tax in Ontario, as well as recommendations for change. Partners in the event were the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Municipal Finance Offers Association (MFOA) and the Ontario Municipal Tax and Revenue Association (OMTRA, formerly AMTCO). Participants from virtually every facet of the property tax industry were represented, including: Municipalities and their representatives, Taxpayers and their representatives, Assessors and their representatives, and the Assessment Review Board. IPTI has promised to provide a “white paper” in review of the conference for comment and presentation. It’s due to come out in late May/early June. Stay tuned!
