RICS-IPTI Property Tax Seminar – Nov 15 2012

Equitable Value president Jeff Grad is chairing the annual RICS property tax seminar in Toronto this November 15, 2012 at the Hyatt hotel in downtown Toronto. Co-presenting organization the International Property Tax Institute will also be represented there as well. The panels look strong, with Chief Assessor from MPAC Larry Hummel presenting the 2013 reassessment results, and then a panel of Legal Experts will be discussing relevant jurisprudence and current activities, chaired by Vice-Chair Susan Mather of the ARB. New addition to the session includes recent litigation results regarding Municipal statutory requirements in an assessment appeal.

Rob Ford responds to OneCity Plan – Freeze Property Tax

Rob Ford has responded to Karen Stintz’s committee’s plan to expand transit in Toronto by suggesting taxes should effectively be frozen, with no more than a 1.75% increase. See http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/07/06/rob-ford-calls-for-property-tax-freeze/

“OneCity” plan to pay for TTC expansion suggests property tax hike in Toronto

Karen Stintz, TTC Chair proposed a 30 year plan to dramatically alter the state of public transportation in Toronto. How would it be funded? Increasing the property tax by removing some of the revenue-neutrality in the rates.
